OpenAI launches ChatGPT

ChatGPT (Chat Generative Pre-Trained Transformer) is a browser-based chatbot capable of answering a wide variety of questions. The launch of this application marks the start of the AI race as several big companies began the development and launch of their own generative AI models, all using large language models.

ChatGPT is notable for its ease-of-use and general purpose application. The first publicly available version of ChatGPT is called GPT-3.5 which uses over 175 billion parameters. Its upgraded version, GPT-4 uses over 1.76 trillion parameters making it even more capable than its predecessor.

GPT-4 can achieve high scores in tests created for humans including university entrance exams and the Uniform Bar Exam for lawyers. It is expected that future large language models will be capable of solving even more complex tasks and challenges.
